Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Check out Zach's blog on how MLK Jr Day hit home differently this year. I echo this feeling and will just let you read the post :)

On another level, MLK Jr day was very refreshing for me. We've been thinking A LOT about education lately as we are contemplating getting involved with an organization called Classical Conversations. Why do we homeschool? Why do we like Classical education? What are our long term goals? Short term goals? How can we build not only the intellect, but also character and faith?

Today, we celebrated MLK day by reading about him and listening to some of his famous speeches on You Tube. I LOVED going through this with my kids! We were struck not only by his stance for justice, but also by his very presence. I thought, "now this is why we are doing what we are doing". MLK was educated to think well and eloquently communicate his thoughts and ideas to others. But it didn't stop there. He grew in intellect, character, and faith so that and by doing so he could fight for justice, truth, and freedom for others. He worked incredibly hard as a child and teen to establish his mind and hon the gifts God had given him so that it brought an ability to think, reason, study, and communicate in a way that changed our nation.

Mya has become a full-fledged toddler. She requires much more "attitude correction" but is also a ton of fun. Her personality is definitely coming out stronger every day. Some of our favorite moments of our day come especially from the funny things she says in her animated way. Here are a few favorites:

Dinner table sayings..." You all done" (translation, I'm all done)
"Mommy, bite me" (translation "mommy, will you help me get a bite")

Zach: "Mya, I like your hair" (ok, praise me, I did her hair in cute twists :))
Mya: "thank you, daddy, I like your head" (must not have thought there was enough hair to mention!)

Of course the all time favorite: "mommy, hold you (translation, "mommy, will you hold me")
